The equipment should be kept indoors where temperature and humidity can be controlled; generally, the temperature should remain within a standard ambient range, avoiding extremes or drastic fluctuations. Excessive humidity can cause metal components to corrode, while low humidity increases the risk of static electricity, which is detrimental to both printheads and circuitry.
When the equipment is idle or being stored for an extended period, the printheads and ink supply system require specific maintenance. Typically, this involves a thorough cleaning to purge residual ink from the lines, followed by the injection of a specialized protective or moisturizing fluid to prevent the nozzles from drying out and clogging. Printheads must be kept sealed to prevent air exposure, which could cause the ink to cure. Additionally, ink supplies should be stored in sealed containers to prevent sedimentation or deterioration.
Storage also requires protection against dust, vibration, and light exposure. The machine should be covered with a dust sheet and placed on a level surface to prevent structural deformation caused by uneven weight distribution over time. Electronic control systems should be kept away from environments with strong electromagnetic interference. For equipment left unused for long periods, periodic power-up checks are recommended to ensure that the circuitry and moving parts remain in good working order.
